Tricycle Deliveries
Children are delivery drivers who pick up packages (beanbags) at the warehouse and carry them by tricycle or hoop car to the houses in the neighborhood, dropping them in each house's basket. It builds driving with a load, following a route and finishing a task.
How to play
- The teacher sets up the warehouse with beanbags on one side and five houses (cones with a basket) around the playground, linked by chalk streets (2 min).
- Each driver takes a package and puts it in the tricycle basket or tucks it under an arm if driving a hoop (1 min).
- Deliver: each driver takes the package to any house, drops it in the basket and goes back to the warehouse for another (4 min).
- Switch turns between tricycles and hoops (4 min).
- Special orders: the teacher calls "Red package to the park house!" (3 min).
- Together we count how many packages each house got, then park (1 min).
Rules
- One package at a time.
- We set packages down, no throwing.
- We go back to the warehouse along the street, no cutting through.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, use one nearby house and big packages.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, use five houses and let kids choose.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, each package has a color and goes to the house of that color.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a child using a wheelchair carries the package on their lap and delivers to houses near their street.
- Visual impairment: houses make a sound (a bell on the cone), and packages have different textures.
- Autism: a fixed route marked with arrows, always starting with the same house.
Learning goals
- Drive a vehicle while carrying something.
- Follow a route to a destination.
- Finish a task with a clear goal.

Teacher tip
If the tricycles have no basket, tie a small box on the back. The common mistake is tossing beanbags from far away: "delivery drivers knock on the door and set it down carefully."
