Superheroes in Scarf Capes
Each child becomes a superhero with a scarf cape tucked into the back of their T-shirt collar, runs so the cape flies and completes stuffed-animal rescue missions. It works on running, changes of direction and helping others through pretend play.
How to play
- Put on the capes: the teacher tucks one corner of each scarf inside the back of the T-shirt collar, with no knots (2 min).
- The superheroes fly: run around the playground with arms out front so the cape flutters (3 min).
- On the drum, strike hero poses (strong, on one foot, looking at the sky), then fly again (2 min).
- Mission: stuffed animals are lost around the playground; each hero rescues one, flies it to the hospital (a hoop) and goes back for another (5 min).
- Double mission: the big stuffed animals are rescued by two heroes, each holding a paw, flying together (2 min).
- The heroes land, take off their capes and sit down to rest with arms crossed like heroes (1 min).
Rules
- The cape is tucked into your shirt, never tied.
- Heroes fly without crashing into anyone.
- Rescue the stuffed animals gently, no throwing.
- If your cape falls off, ask another hero for help.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, everyone flies behind the teacher and each rescues one stuffed animal, no rush.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, free rescue missions plus partner rescues.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, each hospital hoop is a different color and heroes deliver to the hoop the teacher calls, while dodging “buildings” (cones).
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the child is the hospital doctor who receives and cares for the animals, or rescues from the wheelchair with a classmate pushing.
- Visual impairment: stuffed animals have bells or squeakers, and the child goes hand in hand with a hero buddy.
- Autism: the child can carry the cape as a flag if fabric at the neck is uncomfortable.
Learning goals
- Keep running with changes of direction and stops.
- Carry an object while moving.
- Work with a partner on a shared mission.

Teacher tip
Never tie a cape around the neck: only tuck it into the shirt so it pulls free if tugged. Scatter the stuffed animals far from the hospital so there's real running and no pileups.
