Seated Foot Pass Circle
Sitting in a circle with hands planted behind them, the group passes a ball held between their feet without letting it touch the floor. It works leg coordination, core strength, body control and teamwork to beat the group record.
How to play
- Make 4 circles of 6 sitting on the floor, legs straight toward the middle and hands planted behind (1 min).
- Practice (2 min): each player squeezes the foam ball between their feet, lifts their legs and sets it on the feet of the player to the right.
- Challenge 1 (3 min): pass all the way around without a drop; if it falls, pick it up with the feet from where it landed.
- Challenge 2 (4 min): count passes in 1 minute; take 3 tries with a short rest to beat the score.
- Challenge 3 (3 min): pass a beanbag balanced on the top of one foot and switch direction on the whistle.
- Final (2 min): two balls start on opposite sides of the circle and try to catch each other.
Rules
- Only feet touch the ball; hands stay on the floor.
- If the ball drops, pick it up with your feet and keep going.
- Safety: keep your back tall and lower your legs slowly, no slamming.
- The group cheers, and nobody blames the player who drops it.
Variations
Easier
Use a large foam ball and allow heels to rest on the floor.
Standard
Foam ball that never touches the floor during the lap.
Harder
Pass lying on your back, swinging the ball overhead to the partner.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student passes with hands from a chair placed in the circle.
- Visual impairment: the receiving partner taps their own thigh to signal they are ready.
- Fitness level: students who tire may lean back on their elbows to rest their core.
Learning goals
- Coordinate both legs to hold and hand off an object.
- Engage the core while keeping good posture.
- Work together to beat the group record.
Equipment for a class of 25
- foam balls: 8
- beanbags: 4
Teacher tip
Seat circles away from desks so nobody kicks a desk leg when stretching out. Celebrate every group record, which motivates more than competing between circles.
