Park Photographers: Click!
Children stroll around the park watching what's there, and when the photographer says 'Click!', they freeze imitating something they've seen: a dog, a swing, a pigeon, a person reading on a bench. It works on body expression, observation and making choices.
How to play
- The teacher makes a camera with their hands and explains: 'We walk around looking at the park, and when I say Click!, you're a photo of something you see' (1 min).
- Walk around the area, and on each 'Click!' freeze imitating something the teacher points to: a tree, a lamppost, a slide (3 min).
- Now each child chooses what to imitate from what they see, and the photographer guesses what each photo is (3 min).
- Group photos: in little groups of three, make a swing, a bench with people on it or a fountain together (3 min).
- A child becomes the photographer while everyone else poses; finish with a smiling photo of the whole group (2 min).
Rules
- We walk, and we stay inside the teacher's area.
- In the photo, we don't move a hair.
- We imitate people and animals kindly and without going near them.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, the teacher points to what to imitate in each photo and does it with them.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, each child chooses and the teacher guesses.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, group photos and a child photographer who does the guessing.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a child in a wheelchair poses with arms, face and trunk, and makes a great photographer.
- Hearing loss: pair 'Click!' with a big camera gesture.
- Autism: offer two choices ('tree or lamppost?') and let them repeat the same photo if it helps them feel secure.
Learning goals
- Observe the things and people in the park.
- Show what they observe with their bodies.
- Decide what to imitate and communicate it with gestures.
Teacher tip
Pick a quiet part of the park and remind them not to approach dogs or strangers to imitate them: we watch from a distance. Take the first photo yourself, with an exaggerated pose.
