I Fall Like a Ball, Balloon, or Feather
The children watch how a ball, a balloon, and a feather fall and copy them with their bodies. It builds body expression, speed control, and getting safely down to the floor.
How to play
- Seated, the teacher drops a ball, a balloon, and a feather at the same time: which lands first? (2 min).
- Standing, we fall like the ball: fast and bouncing, onto the mats (2 min).
- We fall like the balloon: slowly, bouncing softly and rolling (3 min).
- We fall like the feather: super slowly, swaying side to side (3 min).
- The teacher drops one object and we all fall like it (2 min).
- We lie on the floor like feathers and breathe (1 min).
Rules
- I fall onto the mat, carefully.
- First I watch the object, then I move.
- I fall in my own space, without touching anyone.
- I get up slowly.
Variations
Easier
For 3-year-olds, only ball and feather: fast and slow.
Standard
For 4-year-olds, all three objects.
Harder
For 5-year-olds, the teacher drops two objects in a row and they link both falls.
Adaptations
- Motor-impaired: shows the fall with arms and head from the wheelchair.
- Visual impairment: touches all three objects first and the teacher narrates how they fall.
- Autism: each object comes with a photo and the order stays the same at first.
Learning goals
- Watch and compare how fast things fall.
- Copy movement qualities with the body.
- Get down to the floor with control.
Equipment for a class of 25
- pelota: 1
- globo: 1
- pluma: 1
- colchonetas: 4
Teacher tip
Repeat dropping the three objects several times: they love it and learn by watching. Stress "knees first," never flopping straight back.
