Human Alphabet
In groups of 5, students use their bodies to make letters, numbers, and short words, lying down or standing, for the other groups to guess. Students practice creative movement, teamwork, and organizing space together.
How to play
- Make 5 groups of 5. The teacher holds up a card with a simple letter (L, T, O), and each group makes it with their bodies in under 20 seconds (3 min).
- Move on to harder letters (A, E, R) and numbers. Each group decides who makes which line (3 min).
- Each group secretly draws a card with a 3-letter word. They have 2 minutes to plan and then form each letter one at a time.
- The other groups try to guess the word. If they get it, both groups earn a point: the one making it and the one guessing (5 min).
- Wrap-up: the whole class forms one long word together, such as the school name (2 min).
Rules
- No one climbs on anyone; make letters lying down, sitting, or standing.
- Everyone in the group is part of every letter.
- Guessers wait until the group says "ready" before answering.
Variations
Easier
Only simple capital letters in groups of 3.
Standard
3-letter words formed one letter at a time.
Harder
The group makes the whole word at once and plans without talking.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a student using a wheelchair forms part of the letter with their arms or is the "director" checking the shape from above.
- Hearing impairment: instructions are always written on the card.
- Shyness: the student can take a short line or the dot on the "i."
Learning goals
- Represent shapes creatively with the body.
- Organize space and roles within the group.
- Value classmates' ideas.

Teacher tip
If the floor is cold or dirty, use mats. Prepare words linked to what students are learning in class to connect with other subjects.
