House Sounds Behind the Sheet
The teacher, hidden behind a sheet, makes everyday house sounds (brushing teeth, unlocking a door, pouring water, crumpling a newspaper, stirring hot cocoa), and children act out what they hear. They practice recognizing everyday sounds and expressing them with their bodies.
How to play
- Sitting in front of the sheet, the teacher shows the objects one by one and makes each sound where kids can see (2 min).
- The objects go behind the sheet. The toothbrush sounds: everyone stands and pretends to brush their teeth (2 min).
- More sounds: keys (open the door and walk into the house), water (drink a glass), newspaper (read and crumple it), spoon (stir your breakfast) (4 min).
- Tell the story of the day: the teacher plays the sounds in order from waking up to bedtime, and children act out the routine around the room (3 min).
- A child goes behind the sheet with the teacher and chooses the sound for everyone else (2 min).
- The day is over: with a "shhh" from the teacher, we lie down to sleep (1 min).
Rules
- Listen without peeking behind the sheet.
- Show what you hear with your body, no talking.
- When the sound ends, wait still for the next one.
Variations
Easier
Age 3: three very clear sounds (water, keys, toothbrush), and the teacher helps by miming too.
Standard
Age 4: all five sounds and the whole daily routine in order.
Harder
Age 5: add new sounds (zipper, clapping, combing hair), and children suggest what happens before and after.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: mimes with arms and hands from the chair.
- Hearing impairment: sits up front and may peek around the side of the sheet, or use objects that vibrate when touched.
- Visual impairment: touches each object at the start to connect sound and object.
Learning goals
- Recognize everyday household sounds.
- Act out daily routines through mime.
- Put simple actions in order.

Teacher tip
Check beforehand that the sheet hides you well and the sounds carry to the back of the room. Use the toothbrush and water moments to talk about hygiene and drinking water.
