Four Fitness Components Circuit
A four-station circuit, each station focused on one basic fitness component: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, speed, and flexibility. In pairs, students work 2 minutes at each station and learn which component they are building and why it matters for health.
How to play
- Set up 4 stations with color-coded signs: endurance (jump rope), strength (squats and push-ups on a mat), speed (10-yard sprints between cones), and flexibility (leg and back stretches).
- Take 4 minutes to explain each station's component and demo each exercise.
- Spread pairs across the stations; 2 minutes of work play with the music, and when it stops, pairs get 1 minute to rotate clockwise.
- At each station partners alternate: one works while the other counts reps or checks form, and they switch halfway.
- Complete two rounds of the circuit (about 16 min), trying to beat first-round reps in the second round.
- At the end (5 min), each pair shares which station was hardest and what everyday activity each component connects to.
Rules
- Good form comes before speed; partners speak up if they see poor posture.
- At the speed station, always sprint in the same direction and walk back along the side.
- Use jump ropes with space around you, at least two yards from anyone else.
- If someone feels dizzy or out of breath, they stop, walk, and tell the teacher.
Variations
Easier
Cut work time to 1 minute per station and offer easier options, such as knee push-ups.
Standard
Two rounds of the circuit with 2 minutes of work and 1 minute to rotate.
Harder
Add a fifth coordination station and have pairs record and compare their scores.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: offer a seated option at every station, such as ball throws or fast arm movements.
- Autism: use picture cards at each station and preview the rotation order with a diagram.
- Fitness level: each student picks one of three difficulty levels shown on the station card.
Learning goals
- Identify the four basic fitness components and their health benefits.
- Perform simple exercises for each component with good form.
- Set personal improvement goals between two attempts.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 8
- jump ropes: 8
- mats: 8
- station cards: 4
- music player: 1
Teacher tip
Post a large sign naming the component at each station. The most common mistake is rushing squats and losing form.
