- Walk together around the playground: one beat, one step for both (3 min).
- Swap roles: the drummer now carries the drum (3 min).
- When you meet another pair, stop and play both drums at the same time (2 min).
- Play one last big beat and sit down together (2 min).
Rules
- Walk to the drum, not faster or slower.
- Play the bucket gently; your friend's tummy is behind it.
- If your partner stops, you stop.
Variations
Easier
Age 3: practice standing still first, then walk very slowly with free beats.
Standard
Age 4: one beat per step, with role swaps.
Harder
Age 5: change the tempo (slow, fast) and the carrier has to adjust without talking.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the bucket rests on the lap of the child in the wheelchair while the partner pushes or walks beside, playing.
- Visual impairment: carry the drum, which gives contact and direction, while the partner guides with their voice.
- Autism: start with the teacher playing their bucket, and let them choose to carry or play.
Learning goals
- Match steps with a partner.
- Play a steady beat while walking.
- Cooperate to move an instrument together.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
Use light plastic buckets with smooth rims. Show them to hold the bucket slightly away from the tummy; if someone hits too hard, switch roles before it becomes uncomfortable.
