Balloon Juggling Trios
In groups of three, students keep one, two and even three balloons in the air at once without letting them touch the floor, with striking and communication challenges. It works coordination, controlled striking, divided attention and teamwork.
How to play
- Give every student an inflated balloon and make 8 trios (one group of 4), spread across the space (1 min).
- Solo warm-up (2 min): each student taps 20 times in a row, alternating hands, then with other body parts.
- Challenge 1 (3 min): each trio keeps 2 balloons up for 30 seconds; if one drops, pick it up and restart the count.
- Challenge 2 (3 min): trios play with 3 balloons, and the hitter calls the name of the teammate they are sending it to.
- Challenge 3 (3 min): the trio holds hands and keeps 2 balloons up using only heads, knees or feet.
- Final (3 min): each trio picks its favorite challenge and tries to beat its own time record.
Rules
- Tap the balloons; do not catch or hold them.
- Each trio stays in its own area.
- Safety: if a balloon pops, pick up every piece right away and give it to the teacher.
- Nobody hits the same balloon twice in a row.
Variations
Easier
Use 1 or 2 balloons and allow one catch per round.
Standard
Up to 3 balloons per trio, taking turns tapping.
Harder
Play with 4 balloons or with the non-dominant hand.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student plays seated while the trio forms around them, sending balloons within reach.
- Visual impairment: use bright balloons and call the student's name before each pass.
- Skill level: students who need it start with 1 balloon per trio and add more.
Learning goals
- Strike with control, directing the balloon to a teammate.
- Divide attention among several moving objects.
- Communicate and cooperate to set a shared record.
Equipment for a class of 25
- balloons: 40
Teacher tip
Check for latex allergies and keep latex-free balloons on hand. Do not inflate them fully: they last longer and float more slowly, which is ideal for younger students.
